Two Indian Army porters skid off into stream in J&K, rescue operation launched

A rescue operation was launched near the outpost in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district after two Army porters slipped into a stream on Thursday, January 8, 2026, officials said.
Two porters of the army’s 18 Rashtriya Rifles – Layakat Ahmad Deedard and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana – both residents of Chandoosa area of Baramulla in north Kashmir, said they went off the road and fell into a stream while they were on their way to Anita Police Station in Upper Gulmarg.
They said the police station had a winter outage due to heavy snowfall.
Officials added that the rescue operation has been launched and is currently continuing.
