Married pregnant music teacher charged with sexual abuse of schoolboy | World | News

A married and pregnant music teacher working at a private private school was accused of sexual abuse of a child. The 33-year-old man is accused of multiple sexual offenses against children, including allegedly molesting a male student.
He was also charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with a child over 13 but under 16, and also faces charges of possession of child abuse material and persistent sexual intercourse with a child. Naomi Tekea Craig allegedly committed the crimes between 2024 and 2025, and the school’s principal confirmed her arrest to her family on Tuesday. The letter read: “I regret to inform you that a teacher from our school has been arrested by the police and charged with child-related offenses that do not concern any students present.”
Ms Craig was working as a music teacher at a fee-paying school and was reportedly on maternity leave, pregnant with her second child, due later in the month. He was ordered not to attend school and parents informed him there was “no need to worry” about current students.
The Frederick Irwin Anglican School, an $8,320-a-year institution in Australia, is reportedly one of the most selective schools in the region. It offers a comprehensive music course where 8th grade students are expected to take this course.
Parents reacted with shock on social media; One reportedly wrote that he was a “great music teacher” but that his alleged actions left them “in shock.”
A spokesman for the local Police Force said protecting children was their main priority. They said: “WA Police Force recognizes that reports of crimes against children are extremely distressing to the community […] “Specialist detectives and support services are working tirelessly to investigate these matters and provide care to victims.”
Frederick Irwin Anglican School had no comment beyond the letter sent to parents confirming the arrest.
Under Australian law, sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16 carries serious prison sentences, while possession of child abuse material is also a serious criminal offence. Craig is expected to appear in Mandurah Magistrates’ Court on January 27.
