Two people shot by US federal agents in Portland, police say | Portland

U.S. federal agents shot two people in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday afternoon, Portland police said.
“Two people are in the hospital following a shooting involving federal agents,” the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said. a statementHe stated that their situation was unknown.
PPB said its officers were not involved in the shooting.
“At 2:24 p.m., officers received a report of a man who had been shot and requested assistance in the area of Northeast 146th Street and East Burnside,” police said. “Officers responded and found a man and a woman with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers applied tourniquets and called emergency medical personnel. The patients were transported to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.
“Officers determined two people were injured in a federal agent-involved shooting.”
Democratic congresswoman Maxine Dexter, who represents East Portland, said in a statement: “Just one day after the horrific murder in Minneapolis, I received reports that two people in my district were shot by federal immigration authorities in East Portland this afternoon. Both men are alive, but we do not know the extent of their injuries.”
He added: “ICE has done nothing but inject terror, chaos, and cruelty into our communities. Trump’s immigration machine uses violence to control our communities, drawing directly from the authoritarian playbook. ICE must immediately end all active operations in Portland.”
Portland Mayor Keith Wilson confirmed the attack in a statement and echoed the congressman’s call for a halt to immigration enforcement in the city. “We cannot sit by while constitutional protections are eroded and blood is shed. Portland is not a ‘training ground’ for militarized agents, and the ‘full force’ the administration is threatening would have lethal consequences. As Mayor, I call on ICE to cease all operations in Portland until a thorough investigation is completed,” Wilson said.
Dexter also requested a local police investigation.
“We need to let our local law enforcement do their job,” he said. “There must be a thorough investigation without Trump’s interference.”
In Minneapolis, where an ICE agent fatally shot a woman on Wednesday, federal authorities have taken over the investigation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Portland office reported at “This investigation is still ongoing and is an active and ongoing investigation by the FBI.”
The FBI appeared to delete the post shortly after.
“We understand the heightened emotions and tension many are feeling following the Minneapolis shooting, but I ask the community to remain calm as we work to learn more,” said Police Chief Bob Day.
In their statement, police also reminded the community that “PPB is not involved in immigration enforcement.”
An ABC News affiliate reported that the agents involved in the attack were U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and that the FBI is handling the investigation.
