Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs, including Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra, staged a protest outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence in Delhi on Friday (January 9), following the high-voltage drama that broke out in Kolkata on Thursday after the ED raided the I-PAC office, chief Pratik Jain’s residence and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
TMC MPs Derek O’Brien, Mahua Moitra and some other MPs were lifted and dragged into the police van while being detained by the Delhi Police. TMC MPs gathered banners in front of Shah’s residence saying ‘Bengal rejects Modi-Shah’s dirty politics’, alleging misuse of the Enforcement Directorate.
Condemning the detention of MPs, the All India Trinamool Congress wrote to X: ‘What kind of arrogance is this, Amit Shah? Are you now using your Delhi Police to attack elected representatives just to crush democracy? Is this how dissidents are silenced in your India? Admit it, YOU ARE SO SURPRISED! The first is the shameless abuse of the ED. Now there is an attack on the peaceful dharna of our eight MPs. This helplessness reveals your fear. You may try to strangle democracy, but Bengal will not be deterred. Shame on you and your police! JOTOI KORO HAMLA ABAR JITBE BANGLA!’
