The mask of the ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good was first revealed by the Daily Mail; Shaken father defends his decision to shoot and kill 37-year-old mother.
Jonathan E. Ross, 43, is an Enforcement and Deportation Operations agent and Iraq veteran who is married to a woman with Filipino parents.
He became the focus of outrage for ICE actions across the country after he shot and killed Renee Nicole Good Wednesday afternoon as she drove her SUV down a street where ICE agents were on duty.
Ross’ father defended his son’s decision to kill Good in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail.
‘He hit her,’ said Ed Ross, 80. ‘There was also a police officer with his arm in the car. He will not be accused of anything.
“You will never find a nicer, kinder person,” the father added about his son. ‘He’s a committed, conservative Christian, a great father, a great husband. I couldn’t be more proud of him.”
The elderly father from North Beijing, Illinois, said his son’s wife was a U.S. citizen but declined to say how long she had been in the United States. ‘I don’t want to go any further than that,’ he added.
Ross, whose name is Jon, has lived on the outskirts of Minneapolis since 2015 and has been an immigration officer since at least 2013.

Although neighbors told the Daily Mail that Ross was a staunch MAGA supporter, social media posts reveal that he also has foreign-born relatives.
His wife, 38, whose doctor parents live in the Philippines, married him in August 2012, according to posts on her Instagram page.
Her first photo with Ross was published on her social media account two months ago.
In July 2013, while the couple was living near El Paso, Texas, Ross’ wife posted a photo of him posing next to a U.S. Border Patrol helicopter.
She also shared photos of baking recipes from a Spanish cookbook.
A neighbor on Ross’s 10-house cul-de-sac told the Daily Mail that until recently, Ross had flown pro-Trump flags and the ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ Gadsden Flag, the emblem of the Make America Great Again movement.
There was no sign of Ross, his wife or the flags Thursday afternoon.
‘I think he’s in the military. “He has a military plate,” one neighbor said. ‘During the election there was a don’t tread on me flag and Trump/Vance stickers.
‘His wife is kind, very nice, very outgoing, and he is very shy. They have several children.’

Good (pictured) was a poet and mother of three who grew up in Colorado Springs. She was married to a comedian named Timothy Macklin, who died in 2023, before living in Minneapolis with her husband.

Ross’ father posted a photo of his son in military fatigues, carrying a large rifle, on his Facebook page in 2017.

Other family members appear to have had disagreements with Ross over his political views, even arguing about the far-right group Proud Boys, after Donald Trump sparked controversy by not initially condemning the group in a 2020 debate with Joe Biden.
Her sister, Nicole, posted a photo of herself and a female friend wearing face masks on Facebook in October 2020 with the caption, “I condemn and denounce white supremacy.”
Ross appears to have commented on the photo and later deleted the messages; The only comments left were responses from Nicole and her friend Allison.
‘Proud Boys’ Jon R Oss heard his accusation loud and clear! I watched the entire discussion and heard every word. I respectfully disagree,” Allison wrote.
“Jon R Oss, we have to respectfully disagree,” Nicole added. ‘You’re my brother and I love you, but we’re not going to get into an argument on Facebook.’
Ross seems to have had a tough upbringing. His father, a former insurance agent, filed for bankruptcy in Tampa, Florida, in 1996, when Ross was 13.
The Ross family is religious, and his father serves as director of two church-related organizations.
Ross’s father posted a photo of his son in military fatigues and carrying a large rifle on his Facebook page in 2017, with the caption ‘Jon Ross in Iraq’.
Ross bought his home near Minneapolis for $460,000 in 2015 with a $360,000 loan from the Veterans Administration, according to property records.

Although his mask had just come off, Ross’s first and last name emerged after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the officer who shot and killed Good was “dragged” by a car driven by a suspect he was chasing last year.
The information was repeated in a statement by Vice President J.D. Vance on Thursday.
Specific details pointed to the June arrest of undocumented immigrant and convicted sex offender Roberto Carlos Muñoz. In court documents with the federal prosecutor’s office, the injured ICE officer’s name was listed as ‘Jonathan Ross.’
Another federal civil lawsuit in 2021 stated that Ross was a deportation officer for Minnesota’s Hennepin County until 2017.
While the Trump administration is on the defensive after Ross shot Good, Democratic officials in Minneapolis say it was a murder.
ICE claimed he deliberately drove his burgundy SUV toward agents, but witnesses disputed the claims and Mayor Jacob Frey called it “nonsense.”
Witnesses claimed Good and his wife were acting as legal observers and were filming the protest when the shooting occurred.
But ICE insisted it was trying to use the SUV as a deadly weapon.
Footage of the confrontation shows the victim blocking the road with his car until ICE agents told him to move away.

The Goods lived in a rented house (pictured) in Kansas City’s lively Waldo neighborhood for about two years, but decided to flee the US after Trump’s election. They spent some time in Canada before finally deciding to settle in Minneapolis.

An agent turned to get back onto the road while trying to unlock the driver’s side door handle before driving off. Then three gunshots were heard.
Good lost control of the SUV and crashed into parked cars and a lamppost at high speed, prompting screams of shock from horrified onlookers.
His SUV appeared to have a bullet hole in the driver’s side windshield.
Good and his wife, Rebecca, are understood to have fled the US after Trump’s victory in the 2024 election and traveled briefly to Canada before settling in Minneapolis.
They have a six-year-old child together.
State and local officials demanded that ICE leave Minnesota after Good’s death. But Noem said the agents aren’t going anywhere.
