Liam Rosenior: Chelsea manager says he will ignore the ‘noise’ following appointment

Rosenior secured European football by finishing seventh in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg last season.

The French side are part of the BlueCo multi-club ownership group owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, which also controls Chelsea; but he rejected suggestions that he was hired to toe his superiors’ line.

“I don’t think it’s possible to be in this business and not be your own man,” Rosenior added.

“I understand, I’m not an alien and I know what the press says, but there’s no way you can be a manager if you don’t call the shots yourself.”

Rosenior took over the Chelsea team, which is eighth in the Premier League after five matches without a win, but has also appeared in three more cup competitions this season.

Italian Maresca left less than six months after winning the FIFA Club World Cup at the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge, amid internal tensions over the club’s hierarchy and ownership.

“In a club of this level, fans want success and they have every right to want success,” Rosenior said.

“To win the hearts of the fans, I need to win football matches, build a team that represents them. We are trying to build everything in a different way.

“My job is to try to create a team that teams are afraid of coming to Stamford Bridge.”
