Man shot dead in western Sydney unit block, sparking NSW Police operation

A man was shot dead in western Sydney in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to police reports.

The 44-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds by emergency services around 6.40am on Saturday in a block of Newman Street in Merrylands, in Sydney’s west.

Authorities reported that the man died at the scene despite the intervention of police and medical teams.

Police said in a statement that a crime scene had been established and “an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has begun with the assistance of the State Crime Command Homicide Squad.”
