Long Beach woman allegedly kills 3 people in separate crashes months apart

The 24-year-old Southern California resident was arrested Wednesday following two fatal crashes just months apart.

Ahkeyajahnique Owens, 24, was released on bail after allegedly striking and killing a bicyclist in Long Beach on Oct. 6 and shooting and killing two people in a hit-and-run in another car in January, the Long Beach Police Department said.

Owens allegedly killed 21-year-old Gilberto Lopez and 24-year-old Bobbi Smith and injured three others in the Jan. 4 crash.

Owens surrendered to Long Beach police on Wednesday and was granted $200,000 bail.

The department did not say how much bail was set after the first crash.

He was charged with aggravated vehicular manslaughter in the October crash.

Following the investigation into the January crash, he will likely face additional charges when the case is presented to the District Attorney’s Office next week.

Police said Owens was linked to both crashes through both video and forensic evidence.

Police have not yet detailed the causes of the accidents.
