Amanda Seyfried says OCD kept her away from Hollywood nightclub scene

Amanda Seyfried never felt like the Hollywood lifestyle was for her.
In a recent interview Vogue In the cover issue of the January issue, the 40-year-old “Veronica Mars” actress explained her career and Hollywood life was not for her and said, “I never had many famous friends.”
Unlike other young stars emerging at the time, Seyfried didn’t lead a very public life and was dealing with a “really extreme” obsessive-compulsive disorder, which she said she was diagnosed with at age 19.
“I was living in Marina del Rey at the time, shooting ‘Big Love,’ and my mom had to take a sabbatical from work in Pennsylvania to live with me for a month. I had my brain scans and started medication then, which I still take every night to this day.”

He explained that his OCD makes it riskier for him to do things that might trigger him, including “drinking too much alcohol, using any drugs, or staying out too late.”
“I would make plans and then I wouldn’t go. I guess I made choices,” he said. “I didn’t get into the world of nightclubs. I have to give credit to my OCD.”
“I’ve always stayed close to my family,” Seyfried said of her priorities. Now that she’s a mother, it’s important to spend time with her family while filming.
“That’s the privilege I have at this point in my career,” he said. “‘Listen, I’ll get this done, but… I need to sleep with my kids Friday night, Saturday, Sunday; I need to sleep with them.’ I can say. That’s my only rule. And that gets me fired up. So it would probably help them, but it would definitely help me.”

Seyfried began her career starring in TV commercials when she was 10 years old, and then made her big feature film debut in 2004 with “Mean Girls.” She later starred in “Veronica Mars” and later showcased her singing voice in the musical “Mamma Mia.”
She was nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in “Mank” and later won a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Emmy Award for her role as Elizabeth Holmes in the miniseries “The Dropout.”

Despite her success in Hollywood, the actress chose to leave city life behind early in her career and live on a farm in upstate New York, where she currently lives with her husband, Thomas Sadoski, and their two children, Nina, 8, and Thomas, 5.
In an interview with Wall StreetJournal He said moving to the farmhouse in March 2025 was the best decision for him and helped a lot in dealing with some mental health issues.

“The house was small, so we built it to add a kitchen. We use the barns as a shelter for rescued horses, ducks, chickens, peacocks, goats and other animals.”
“I still have concerns, but taking care of aging animals keeps me from obsessing over things that don’t matter. My pony, Cliff, is 38. Every day I spend with him is a gift. It punishes me,” Seyfried said.
During an appearance “CBS Sunday MorningIn December 2025, Seyfried explained that her decision to move to upstate New York stemmed from the realization that Hollywood is a “tough” place and that “there are a lot of people working in a way that doesn’t make it feel like a safe place.”
