Triptii Dimri’s character Afsha in the new film is thought to be inspired by Sapna Didi, a fearless woman from Mumbai’s underworld who seeks revenge on Dawood Ibrahim for the murder of her husband.
The much-awaited teaser of Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘O’Romeo’ has been released and it offers a glimpse into the gritty, dark story of Romeo. The makers on Saturday released a one minute and 35 seconds teaser introducing the important characters played by Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Disha Patani, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Farida Jalal and Nana Patekar.
The teaser opens to show Shahid as the tough and fierce Romeo, ready for a fight. Having a raw, unpolished appearance with a brutal attitude, Shahid’s character seemed shaped by violence, carrying anger beneath the surface. His character is reportedly inspired by real-life Mumbai underworld figure Hussain Ustara, known for his rivalry with Dawood Ibrahim. Triptii Dimri’s character Afsha in the new film is thought to be inspired by Sapna Didi, a fearless woman from Mumbai’s underworld who seeks revenge on Dawood Ibrahim for the murder of her husband.
Who was Sapna Didi?
Sapna Didi, born Ashraf Khan, was a quiet woman whose life changed when her husband Mehmood Khan was murdered by Dawood Ibrahim’s gang. This failure transformed her from a grieving widow into a feared gangster who devoted her life to avenging her husband’s death. He formed alliances and plotted against Abraham. He formed a partnership with rival gangster Hussain Ustara, who trained him in martial arts, cycling and gun use. His deadliest operation was an attempt to kill Dawood during a cricket match in Sharjah, but it failed and he was brutally murdered in 1994.
About O’Romeo
O Romeo marks the fourth collaboration between Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor, who have previously worked together in films like ‘Kaminey’, ‘Haider’ and ‘Rangoon’. The producers had previously announced the name and release date of the movie with a new poster.
The trailer also highlights glimpses of actors Disha Patani, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Farida Jalal and Nana Patekar, who will add more layers to the story. Actor Avinash Tiwary also makes a strong appearance in the teaser. Other names in the cast are Aruna Irani, Hussain Dalal, Resh Lamba and Rahul Deshpande. Presented by visionary Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O’Romeo will release in theaters around Valentine’s Week on February 13, 2026.
