According to EuroNews, protesters demonstrated in many European cities in support of Iran’s protests against the regime.

People of Iranian descent living abroad or people of Iranian descent gathered on the Malieveld, a large lawn area in The Hague, and expressed their concern about not being able to contact their relatives due to the internet outage.

According to EuroNews, another demonstration was also held in the German capital Berlin in support of two weeks of protests that are said to have become one of the biggest challenges for Iranian authorities since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Protesters in Berlin told EuroNews they hope their activism will help Europe and the United States help the Iranians in their fight to overthrow the regime.

Meanwhile, Iran’s military has issued a warning that it will defend the country’s “national interests” as anti-government protests escalate amid widespread arrests and an internet blackout, Al Jazeera reported.

In a statement carried by semi-official news sites on Saturday, the military claimed that Israel and “hostile terrorist groups” were trying to “undermine the country’s public security”.

The statement said, “The Army, under the command of the Commander-in-Chief, together with other armed forces, will resolutely protect and safeguard national interests, the country’s strategic infrastructure and public property, in addition to monitoring enemy movements in the region.”

According to Al Jazeera, the warning came as authorities intensified steps to prevent the biggest protests in the country in recent years, as demonstrations broke out due to the rising cost of living and inflation.

Crowds gathered again in northern Tehran on Saturday, setting off fireworks and banging pots and chanting slogans supporting Iran’s ousted monarchy. Other videos, which could not be independently verified, also suggested rallies in Rasht, Tabriz, Shiraz and Kerman.

Protests have spread across Iran since late December, increasing calls to end the religious system in place since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

According to Al Jazeera, Human Rights Iran stated that at least 51 protesters, including nine children, were killed by security forces and hundreds were injured, while human rights groups called for restraint over reports of deaths and mass arrests.
