Butlin’s issues apology after £1k nightmare holiday in UK seaside town | UK | News

A UK seaside resort has been forced to apologize to a family who abandoned their holiday after encountering a “terrible” smell, “mouldy pillows” and “holes in the walls”. The 41-year-old Brighton woman, who wished to remain anonymous, took her family to Butlin’s in Bognor Regis for a four-day getaway last month, hoping for a relaxing stay with a trusted and long-standing “British brand”. But after spending just under £1,100 for two adults and four children, he was left with “holes in the walls, stripped furniture, broken lights and stains all over the carpet”.

“It looked like someone had stayed there on an adult weekend, got into a fight and made a mess of the room,” he said. Argus. The family eventually moved to a different room, where they were greeted by a “horrible, vomit-like smell” which they later traced to a drip tray at the back of the fridge “filled” with rotten milk.

The 41-year-old man also discovered stains and “trails of mold” on his son’s pillows and bedding the morning of his arrival.

“My son has a learning disability, so not being clean is a terrible thing for him,” she said.

The family eventually chose to abandon their trip a day early and received a refund of half the cost of their stay, but they are pressing for a full refund.

“We are still complaining and they are still not willing to refund the full money,” the woman said. “I work really hard for my money – you wouldn’t expect to pay over £1,000 for a brand-name hotel and have to leave early.”

A Butlin’s spokesman said: “We are sorry to hear that this family experienced accommodation difficulties during their stay last month.

“This is not the high standard we expect from our guests and as soon as our team became aware of the matter the family moved to different accommodation.

“As an apology, we provided a refund covering accommodation, meals and missed activities and this was accepted while the family was on holiday.”
