Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry awaits major decision as ‘powerless’ Palace looks on | Royal | News

Prince Harry is expecting a major decision in the long-running battle to step up his security during his visit to the UK, and it is claimed Buckingham Palace will have “no authority” over the outcome. The 41-year-old, who lives in California with his wife Meghan and their two children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, lost his case to get police protection when he and his family arrived in the UK in May last year.
The Duke of Sussex had his security level downgraded when he stepped down from royal duties in 2020, but the prince argued it was unsafe to bring his family back to the country of his birth because he could not guarantee their safety. In last year’s case, he challenged a decision taken by the Protection of Royal Family and Public Personalities (Ravec), which authorized the security of senior royals on behalf of the Home Office.
That decision is currently under review and Harry is understood to be “confident” of a positive outcome, with insiders telling GB News that whatever the review decides, the Palace “will not have such authority within Ravec”.
They added: “As long as they sit on the committee, it is not their role to advise on threat analysis or appropriate mitigation measures. This is a role for genuine intelligence and security experts to advise – which they would do, of course, when the duke’s visits to the UK are reviewed under the current Ravec process.”
The outcome of the review into Harry’s security is expected to be announced later this month.
