The state government has approved the construction of an open model flyover at Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district. The problems of citizens using the route will be alleviated.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had laid a six-lane road from Ichchapuram to Etcherla three years ago, but did not construct the flyover at Ranasthalm due to opposition from local traders who feared that work would come to a halt as Ranasthalm is a major junction in Srikakulam district. Additionally, the ring road was not used because farmers surrendered their land for the highway expansion and demanded high compensation.

Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu resolved the issue by holding talks with NHAI officials in New Delhi and received approval for construction of an open model flyover at Ranasthalam. The MP said, “On the open model overpass, people can easily move from one side to the other. A closed overpass would disrupt trade.”

NHAI is expected to spend around ₹ 250 crore for the construction of the flyover and road widening on both sides of the flyover. Work continues rapidly and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
