Teenager charged over gun incident that sent Pinjarra into lockdown
A teenager has been charged in connection with the incident, which put parts of Pinjarra on lockdown following reports that a man was wandering around with a rifle on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old from Lakelands was arrested after running for seven hours, evading a significant police presence that included a tactical response group.
He has since been charged with being armed to create fear, aggravated burglary, burglary and breach of bail.
He will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court this morning.
WA Mandurah District Acting Superintendent Darren Hart claimed police were notified of a suspicious person at a resident on Pollard Street at around 9.30am.
By 10:10 a.m., officers received another report of a man in the yard holding a long-armed firearm on security cameras.
“Police are investigating a report that a bullet may have been fired into that home. No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported to police,” Hart said.
The incident was the second firearms-related police operation carried out by Kenneth Giles in the past week. He remains at large after allegedly shooting a womanbelieved to be his partner, was in his possession on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Mullewa, a farming town in the state’s Midwestern region.
The veteran forester has so far eluded key police resources assigned to find him.
