On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, to mark the second anniversary of the launch of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the Congress said the nationwide march played an important role in placing the protection of democracy and the Constitution at the center of public discourse, including the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign.

Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said the Rahul Gandhi-led yatra helped bring concerns about constitutional values, democratic institutions and social justice to the fore at a time of increasing political polarisation.

He recalled that Mr. Gandhi started the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from violence-hit Manipur on January 14, 2024 and completed it in Mumbai on March 16, 2024, covering a distance of about 6,600 km over a period of about two months, crossing 15 States.

According to the Congress communications officer, the yatra aimed to highlight issues of social, economic and political justice while emphasizing unity and constitutional ethos.

“It is to the credit of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra that the protection of democracy and the Constitution of India has become a central feature of the Lok Sabha 2024 election campaign and our public discourse today,” Mr. Ramesh said.

The yatra began amid ethnic violence in Manipur, with Mr Gandhi claiming at the time that the Congress would present an alternative vision for the country based on harmony, brotherhood and equality. He had said the march was aimed at countering what the party described as divisive politics and the increasing concentration of economic and political power.

During the yatra, Mr. Gandhi interacted with farmers, workers, students and civil society representatives, raising issues related to unemployment, price rise, social discrimination and federalism. Party leaders have since described the march as a continuation of the earlier Bharat Jodo Yatra and focused more on justice and constitutional safeguards.
