Tej Pratap Yadav, eldest son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, asked his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav to merge RJD with Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD).
Mr. Tej Pratap said this on the occasion of the Dahi-Chura feast he organized at his official residence in Patna and invited leaders crossing party lines.
Mr. Tej Pratap said, “JJD is the original party of Lalu Prasad ji and I will encourage my younger brother Tejashwi Yadav to merge RJD with my party.”
The banquet was also attended by Mr. Lalu Prasad, who had once expelled Tej Pratap from the party and even cut family ties with him.

After being expelled from the party in May 2025, he founded his own political party called Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD). However, he lost the election from Mahua assembly constituency.
When Mr. Prasad expelled him, he wrote on ‘X’: “The elder son’s activities, public behavior and irresponsible behavior are not in accordance with our family values and traditions. Therefore, I am suspending him from the party and the family. He will have no role in the party and the family from now on. He is expelled from the party for 6 years.”
Mr. Prasad’s tone changed when he went to his house to attend the banquet and said: “I am not angry with Tej Pratap, he has blessings and is doing good work by organizing the Dahi-Chura banquet. Everyone should organize this.”
Tejashwi skipped Dahi-Chura feast
However, his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav and mother Rabri Devi skipped it. The day before, Mr. Tej Pratap had gone to Ms. Devi’s house to deliver the invitation card to all three of them.
To a question about his younger brother not coming to the banquet, Mr. Tej Pratap said, “He wakes up late in the morning. I gave him an invitation.”
Other leaders who attended the banquet included Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Janata Dal (United) leader and minister Ashok Choudhary. Even Governor Arif Muhammad Khan attended the festival.
When journalists asked Mr. Tej Pratap whether he had received any offers from other political parties, he said that he had received offers from almost all parties but would decide at the right time. He also stated that if he is given an opportunity for any assignment, he would like to accept it.
It is believed that after losing the Assembly election, he made intense efforts to become a member of the Bihar Legislative Council and this could only be possible if the ruling parties supported him.
