Man who stole £800 worth of meat from Aldi jailed and hit with supermarket ban

A thief has been jailed and banned from all Aldi stores in the Essex area after stealing nearly £800 worth of meat, including prime wagyu steaks.
Matthew Jenkins, 44, was captured by officers from the Tendring Neighborhood Policing Team following a series of burglaries in early January.
Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard Jenkins stole meat worth £782.96 from an Aldi store on Pier Avenue in Clacton-on-Sea between December 31 and January 5.
He also admitted buying fitness nutrition products worth £42 from a nearby Boots on January 6.
Jenkins was convicted on January 7 of four counts of shoplifting and breaching the community order, which he admitted to.
He was sentenced to 30 weeks in prison.
As part of his sentence, a criminal behavior order was made banning him from entering any Aldi store in the Tendring area for three years.
Jenkins was also ordered to pay a £187 victim surcharge.
Neighborhood officer Pc Sam Jewell, of Essex Police, said Jenkins had a criminal history and added: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime.
“Criminals’ behavior can impact staff and customers in the stores they target.
“We have a duty to protect all victims of crime from repeat offending.
“One way we can do this is to apply to the courts for criminal behavior orders designed to prevent them from re-offending and having a future impact on retail staff.”
