Rush hour chaos on A3 as horror incidents with horses spark 60-minutes delays | UK | News

Three horses were killed in two incidents that saw all lanes closed on the A3 just north of Guildford. The road between the A247 (Burntcommon) and the B2039 (Ockham) is closed following a collision involving a large goods vehicle (LGV).

Surrey Police were called at around 1.40am to reports of two horses being loose after colliding with a lorry. Later, a separate call came about the incident between the car and the horse. Three horses were found dead at the scene and Highways England arrived to remove them from the road.

As a result, there is a delay of approximately one hour compared to the expected traffic. Drivers were asked to stay away from the area and use diversionary roads.

National Highways told motorists to follow the solid diamond diversion symbol and leave at the Send (Burntcommon) junction.

At the roundabout take the 2nd exit and continue on the B2215 via Burntcommon/Ripley for approximately 2 miles until you reach the A3 Ockham junction. At the roundabout take exit 1 to rejoin the A3 northbound.

The agency said in an update: “The A3 at Surrey is closed northbound between the A247 (Burntcommon) and B2039 (Ockham) due to a serious collision.

“Emergency services, including Surrey Police, are at the scene. National Highways have deployed resources to assist with traffic management.”

The A3 is expected to reopen at 9.30am while the debris is cleared, but this may change and be delayed.

Police investigations are ongoing and officers are dealing with the drivers of both vehicles.
