Florida driver saves toddlers from busy road in heroic rescue: ‘I was terrified’

A quick-thinking Florida driver stopped and ran into the street to save two young children wandering in the middle of a busy road Sunday.
John Brittingham said he was driving south on A1A in Brevard County when he saw two teenage girls standing in the middle of the busy roadway. He immediately stopped his vehicle and ran to the road to pick up the children.
In the video, Brittingham can be seen running towards the children and raising his hand to signal oncoming traffic to stop.
“I was horrified to think what could have happened to them. The rest of my life would have been ruined,” Brittingham said. WESH-TV.

When he reached them, a child was already in the middle of the street. He said he grabbed both girls and ran them off the road in about six seconds.
Brittingham said the girls appeared to be about 2 years old or younger and could not speak clearly, only pointing and saying “Ohh.”

After getting the young children to safety, Brittingham searched nearby homes and eventually found an Airbnb property. He said no one answered when he knocked on the door, so he went around the house calling. Then he noticed the back door was open.

Inside he found an elderly couple and a young woman who appeared unaware that the children were gone.
“There was an older couple and a young girl, and they immediately said, ‘Oh my God, we’re so sorry,'” Brittingham said. “And I thought, ‘Yes, I know, I’m glad I could bring them back to you. They were on their way and your door was open.'”

Brittingham, who has five children and grandchildren, said she did not call the police because her main goal was to get the children back to their families.
