After Two Warnings, Centre Now Prepares To Evacuate Indians From Iran | India News

Amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, India is preparing to evacuate Indian citizens from Tehran. There is a possibility of armed conflict between Israel (supported by the US) and Iran. In case of an armed conflict, the security of Indian citizens will be at risk and therefore the government has warned them to leave Iran as soon as possible. According to News18, the first flight may depart from Tehran tomorrow.
Notably, the Ministry of External Affairs has issued two advisories for Indian citizens, one on January 14 and the other on January 5.
MEA, in its advisory yesterday, said: “In continuation of the advisory issued by the Government of India on January 5, 2026, and in view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian citizens (students, pilgrims, businessmen and tourists) currently in Iran are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights. It is reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protest or demonstration, stay in touch. MEA further said: “All Indian citizens in Iran are requested to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passport and identity documents, ready with them. They are requested to contact the Indian Embassy for any assistance in this regard.”
According to reports, the government is monitoring flight movements and is preparing to respond based on the evolving ground situation in Iran. Indian embassy is currently collecting data of Indian students/citizens in Iran. According to reports, more than 10,000 Indians live in Iran and the evacuation may take longer as data collection has become cumbersome due to internet disruption.
Earlier, parents of Indian students studying in Iran had expressed serious concerns about the safety of their children at a time when the situation in the country was deteriorating and appealed to the Government of India to facilitate their evacuation.
Iran continues to cause unrest with protests that entered their 21st day on Thursday. What began as demonstrations over record inflation and a sharp decline in Iran’s currency has turned into widespread unrest across the country, with reports of unrest coming from more than 280 regions.
