Mother of one of Elon Musk’s sons sues over Grok-generated explicit images | Grok AI

The mother of one of Elon Musk’s children is suing his company, claiming sexually explicit images were created by the Grok AI tool, including images of her as a minor.

Owned by Ashley St Clair filed a lawsuit The New York state supreme court filed a lawsuit against xAI, alleging that Grok, which is used on social media platform X, promised to stop producing sexually explicit images but continued to do so.

It is seeking punitive damages and damages, alleging that dozens of obscene and humiliating deepfake images were created by Grok.

Following two weeks of public outcry over the tool’s use to create sexualized images of women and children, the company said on Wednesday that it would be “geo-blocked” in countries where it is illegal for users to “create images of real people in bikinis, underwear and similar clothing through a Grok account and on Grok in X.”

St Clair, 27, who is estranged from Musk, is a right-wing influencer, author and political commentator. She and Musk are parents to a son born in 2024.

She is represented by victims’ rights attorney Carrie Goldberg, who specializes in holding tech companies accountable and has previously represented women victims of sexual harassment and abuse.

The filing alleges that the social media company “retaliated against her, demonetized account

According to the filing, the images created by Grok include a 14-year-old girl in a bikini and sexualized content of St Clair as an adult; this includes a request to “put the girl in a bikini made of dental floss.”

The filing stated that not only were the images not actually consensual, but “Grok and xAI also had clear knowledge that St Clair did not consent to the creation or dissemination of these images due to removal requests.”

Grok also responded to users’ requests to add tattoos to St. Clair’s body, including the words “Elon’s whore,” the filing said.

St Clair, who is Jewish, claims Grok digitally dressed her in a bikini decorated with swastikas.

The lawsuit states that X “benefited financially from the creation and dissemination of non-consensual, realistic, sexualized deepfake content depicting Plaintiff as a minor and an adult.”

The filing states that “xAI is directly responsible for the abusive and sexually explicit images generated by its chatbot, Grok.”

Musk shared on X that he is responsible for the images his app’s users create. He recently said: “Anyone who uses Grok to create illegal content will be subject to the same consequences as if they had uploaded illegal content.”

He added: “Obviously Grok doesn’t create images on its own, it just does it based on user requests.”

X said in a statement Thursday that it has “zero tolerance for all forms of child sexual abuse, non-consensual nudity and unwelcome sexual content.”

The company countersued, claiming that under X’s terms of service, St Clair could not sue the company in New York but must do so in Texas.

St Clair previously told the Guardian she felt “horrified and violated”, adding: “This is another tool of abuse. It’s all about consent.”

He said Musk’s aides have disliked him ever since Musk went public with his desire to raise a “legion” of children. Musk is the father of 13 more children, three of whom are women.

X has been contacted for comment.
