Tips and race-by-race preview for Rosehill on Saturday
Small field and conditions will come into play. 5. Bacio Del Sis With a second and fourth place finish at Randwick three weeks ago, he showed that he has a good performance this time and will find softer ground to his liking. He won’t give as many starting chances as usual due to low numbers and this is a good chance for him to stand out. 2. Unsaid He’s pushing for victory and found the line well from the back when he was third in the Summer Cup. There are weights here, and while he probably doesn’t want it to be heavy, it’s dangerous on anything better. 3. Imperialist He was a good boxer on the test field in three runs at Randwick, solid in the Summer Cup, but Unspeakable came from behind to beat him at home. We hope it runs well. 4. Tourist He has had a stop-start campaign with just two runs and will appreciate a forgiving track after failing to maintain it on solid track after his last run on Unspoken. It might be a surprise.
How to play: Bacio Del Mist wins.
Race 6: THANKS NOEL CUTHBERT HANDICAP (1500 METERS) 15:30
I’m happy to stay together 5. Alabama Fox At Randwick two weeks ago he got the job done easily, trusted his pace and won at will. Up just 2.5kg after the claim, he looks good all over the ground and has plenty of time to find a place in the long run until the return. The one to be defeated again. 3. Changing Colors He returns to Rosehill where he wins two tries, including a fine debut effort, and finishes second. Just a fair second but not disgraceful, he was beaten a few lengths and bounced back easily. 8. Aroha Stone He had an easy first win at states, then came to town in the same race as Changing Colors and was taken out of the race and fell immediately behind, which explains the huge losing margin. Ignore this, he loves pain and can be competitive. 6. Editing It’s a bit disappointing but his best run this time was on a heavy track at Kembla Grange three starts ago, so a wet track could put him in that situation.
How to play: Alabama Fox wins.
Race 7: RANVET HANDICAP (2400 METERS) 16:05
Always have a little heart in your mouth when you follow 7. The Bestower but he races in excellent form and loves excitement off the track. He was beaten at this distance two starts ago and probably should have won at Randwick a month ago, it wasn’t clear until it was all over. He will return to the field for a while, but if he makes contact on the return he will approach. 6. Bella Montagna He was way behind in the 2000m at Randwick last time in a tight field and did well to finish fifth. The way he runs, you’d think this trip would suit him, and he’s in the mix. 12. Ant He could make great progress, he was disappointing last time out but his second run showed he has bounced back nicely and the increase in distance from his recent prep form will suit him. 11. Calm Pearl He won the 2000m race at Randwick and has won over 2200m so the distance won’t pass him by. We have a small question mark if we get seriously wet, but otherwise he has a chance.
How to play: Giving to win.
Race 8: KIA ORA HANDICAP FROM BLOODLINES TO HEADLINES (1300 METERS) 16:40
5. Band of Brothers He is a close second behind Tuned’s two running backs and brings serviceable form to Sydney, with a sound showing off a wide wicket at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago. If the first barrier holds, that’s a plus for him, as is the 3kg claim, and he should run well in an opening race. 4. Rhythm of Love has been treading water for a while after experiencing a late scratch after his first planned run. He’s back in the trials and had a nice victory over 1200m, he handles all ground and tends to run fresh so there’s a good case for him. 6. Just Party He finds it difficult to win when he comes into the mix and it’s fair to say he got his chance at Randwick in a small field. The low grade and distance, and the flashers on, can’t rule him out yet.
How to play: Band Of Brothers wins.
Race 9: ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1100 METERS) 17:20
7. Bev’s Nine He has done no wrong in three wins in as many starts and on a variety of surfaces. He looks to have bounced back well with two trial wins leading the way, he can come forward with a good draw and the horse is on the rise. It’s a good chance to continue your winning ways. 3. Gatsby’s His first run for Joe Pride was very promising so running from behind could be very dangerous. He’s performed well through previous pain, and if he can improve on this new effort, he’s got a chance. 1. Eye of Fire He won this race, which marked a return to form for him. He’s only gained 1kg since the claim and we can expect him to be there again as he’s usually the consistent type when on form. 9. Art Lives She nearly finished third on this track last time when continuing on a soft track and is making a good run on the last one, a second behind Bev’s Nine. Someone to watch out for.
How to play: Bev’s Nine will win.
Race 10: TAB HANDICAP (1500 METERS) 18:00
7. Cross Tasman He is a promising horse and has been exceedingly good in his two starts this time, going over the outside gate and away from Off The Press at Randwick on Boxing Day. There should be no fears in the extra 200m, it’s a beautifully drawn and soft track so it certainly won’t be a problem, especially now in third place. It’s hard to beat. 16. Towards here Another progressive type and scoring a hat-trick after wins at Canterbury and Randwick. Don’t think a wet track will worry him, he will move forward and may be difficult to pass. 1. Pippie Beach After two good runs on good tracks, he is now in third place, creating much more favorable conditions for himself. In fact, the wetter the better. Keep that in mind. 9. Pure Alpha He ran a fair race going on but has a much stronger second place record and some useful references and is giving up on some ground. He never won in a good way. It may occur.
How to play: Cross the Tasman to win.
