Trump says Fed’s Jerome Powell should resign immediately

US President Donald Trump wants Federal Reserve President Jerome Powell to resign without delay. On Tuesday, Trump said Powell’s reluctance to lower rates cost the country for “hundreds of billions of dollars”. He made it clear that someone more compatible with his economic stance.

Powell, an investment banker before politics, first joined the Federal Reserve, the former President Barack Obama. Trump then promoted him to the chair. Powell’s mission lasts until May 2026, but the President seems determined to push it earlier.

Short list of contestants

Trump doesn’t waste time. He said he looked at the name “Three or four” to replace Powell last week. Objective: Find someone who matches the economic vision.
Treasury secretary Scott Bessent’s name appeared. Bessent said he wasn’t interested in Fox Business. “We have many big candidates for the federal reserve. I think I have the best job in Washington. However, he added, ım I will go to the place where the president thinks I am most appropriate, ”he added.

Like Bessent’s role in softening trade tensions with China, the registry of the closing agreements for Trump abroad makes it a reliable figure in the cabinet.

Sadık consultants in the mixture

Kevin Hassett, who manages the National Economic Council of the White House, is another option. Hassett, a close ally in Trump’s first period, supported the President’s economic calls from taxes to trade rankings. Hassett said that earlier this year will “continue to examine” how Trump will be removed. Michelle Bowman can make a date if selected. He is the Vice President of the Federal Reserve. This means that the FED has shaped the Rule Book for Banks, a priority for Trump, who wants less regulatory obstacles. Bowman separated roads with Powell, pushed for a cut instead. If the Congress approved him, he would be the second woman to lead the Fed after Janet Yellen.

Veterans were also considered

Kevin Warsh, a former Morgan Stanley banker, returned to the conversation. Warsh almost chaired in 2018, but he lost to Powell. In 2006, the FED board joined Young and was a key in the 2008 crisis. He also recommended President George W. Bush.

Christopher Waller completes the list. Trump put him in 2020 to the FED Board of Directors. Waller called for ratio cuts to protect the labor market. He usually votes with Powell, but he says it is vital to keep the Fed independent.
