It’s just days away from snow returning to the UK as advanced weather maps show showers of up to 10 centimeters per hour are possible.
The ECMWF weather model predicts scattered snow to fall across the UK on 23 January, landing in Northern Ireland, Wales, the north of England and parts of Scotland around noon. The most intense storms are expected to hit Scotland first, with Glasgow also targeted.
The maps then show snow showers affecting the UK for five consecutive days. Data for midday 24 January shows snow could be seen in Bristol as winter weather affects the south-west and Wales.
Some precipitation may also occur in Manchester and Aberdeen during this period, as showers continue in the north and Scotland.
This scattered pattern is also expected on January 25th, but on January 26th maps show heavy snowfall will become more intense in Scotland and South Wales, where it could fall at a staggering rate of around ten inches per hour by 6am.

On 27 January maps show another small but strong snow front reaching 10 centimeters per hour across southern England; Looks like Brighton will be witnessing the white stuff too.
And snowpack maps for this five-day period reveal the full extent of the onslaught of winter weather. They show that on January 24, snow fell on the ground in Wales, central and northern England, Northern Ireland and much of Scotland.

Snowfall is expected across the UK on January 27; Dust is expected to occur in Brighton and Southampton on the south coast, and in the northern regions and Wales. But data suggests snowfall will be relatively light except in the Scottish Highlands, where up to 32cm could accumulate.
The Lake District may receive around 9cm of precipitation, while other low-lying areas are likely to see only 1cm or 2cm of precipitation.
The Met Office also said there was a chance of further snowfall before the end of the month. Their forecast for January 20-29 is as follows: “During this period the UK will see a battle between Atlantic weather systems trying to arrive from the west and high pressure and cooler conditions trying to exert some influence from the east. “Milder Atlantic air is expected to prevail initially.

“This situation will continue mostly cloudy, variable weather conditions, with showers or longer periods of rain. The wettest weather of the country will be in the western parts, while the eastern part will be drier.

“Overall, temperatures are likely to be around average, with some overnight frosts likely in more exposed areas. Later in the period, conditions become more likely to get colder. This aspect of the forecast is still uncertain, but the possible shift to colder weather also increases the likelihood of snow in parts of the country.”

This was Storm Goretti, which brought winds of up to 99mph and up to 27cm of snow to parts of the UK, following the latest ‘multi-hazard’ event that even triggered a red weather warning earlier this month.
