The 4.1 magnitude earthquake that shook Gujarat’s Kutch region in the early hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026, caused panic among the local people, but no casualties were reported, officials said.
The Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) said the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded at 01.22 am, about 55 km northeast (Northeast) of Khavda in the district.
“No loss of life or property damage was reported,” a district disaster management official said. The Kutch region is located in the “very high risk” seismic zone and low-intensity earthquakes occur here regularly.
The 2001 earthquake in Kutch was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake to occur in India in the last two centuries.
On January 26, the 7.6 magnitude earthquake, whose epicenter was near Bhachau in the Kutch region, caused the death of 13,800 people and caused large-scale destruction.
