Plane mysteriously vanishes after ‘loud explosion’ heard | World | News

While a passenger plane mysteriously disappeared from radar after locals heard a loud explosion, urgent search efforts continue to find the missing plane. According to aviation officials, the ATR 42-500 turboprop aircraft operated by Indonesian Air Transport was flying from Yogyakarta to Makassar when contact was lost about 19 kilometers away.

While flight tracking data showed the plane suddenly disappeared from radar, residents near the last known location reported hearing a sound “resembling burning material” before a loud explosion. The plane was reportedly carrying three passengers and eight crew members when it disappeared.

Indonesian authorities declared an emergency and sent search and rescue teams to the area where the crash was suspected; Officials confirmed that three teams and about 60 personnel are currently scouring mountainous terrain near the plane’s last known location.
