Three corridors to be ready in 4 years; check cost and routes

Phase IV of Delhi Metro. The phase will see the development of three corridors to be completed over the next four years. The first corridor will extend from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block, the second from Inderlok to Indraprastha and the third from Rithala to Kundli.

Three new corridors will be developed in the Delhi Phase 4 metro in the next four years.

The Delhi Government, under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has taken an important decision to further expand the capital’s Metro network. The government has announced Phase IV of Delhi Metro Rail Transit System (MRTS). It released its share of funding for the remaining three corridors of its phase. According to the official statement, the Prime Minister stated that these projects will provide improved Metro connectivity to various parts of Delhi and further strengthen the public transport system. The corridors are expected to be completed within four years.

Metro Phase-IV corridors: Full routes, costs

Efficient metro operations will also play an important role in controlling pollution. The total length of the three Phase-IV Metro corridors will be 47,225 kilometers. The projects are estimated to cost around Rs 14,630.80 billion, of which Rs 3,386.18 billion will be borne by the Delhi Government. The first corridor is proposed from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block, with a length of 8.385 kilometers and eight elevated Metro stations. The second corridor, 12,377 kilometers long, has been proposed from Inderlok to Indraprastha. There will be a total of 10 Metro stations on this line, one elevated and nine underground.

This corridor has been included in the unified financial framework with the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block corridor. The total project cost of these two corridors is Rs 8,399.81 billion, of which Delhi Government’s share will be Rs 1,987.86 billion. The third and longest corridor has been proposed to extend the connectivity from Rithala to Kundli to the neighboring state of Haryana. This corridor will be 26,463 kilometers long and include 21 stations. The total cost of this project was estimated at 6,230.99 billion rupees, while the Delhi Government’s share was 1,398.32 billion rupees.

In the statement, it was stated that 5,685.22 billion rupees of the total cost will be spent for Delhi and 545.77 billion rupees for Haryana. These three corridors will provide better travel facilities to residents of various parts of Delhi. The Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block corridor will pass through Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, GK-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushp Bhawan, Saket District Center and Pushp Vihar. The Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor will connect areas such as Inderlok, Dayabasti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Jhandewalan, Nabi Karim, New Delhi Railway Station, Delhi Gate and Delhi Secretariat-IG Stadium. The comprehensive Rithala-Kundli corridor will pass through Rithala, Rohini Sectors 25, 26, 31, 32, 36, Barwala, Rohini Sectors 35 and 34, Bawana Industrial Area-I (Sectors 3-4 and 1-2), Bawana JJ Colony, Sanoth, New Sanoth, Bhorgarh village, Narela Anaj Mandi, Narela DDA Sports Complex, Narela, Narela Sector-5, Kundli and Nathupur.

The tender process for these corridors continues, and foundation works have started in some of them. The construction of these metro corridors will increase connectivity between the northern, central and southern parts of Delhi as well as the Delhi-NCR region. This will reduce traffic pressure on the roads, save time for commuters and encourage the use of public transport. According to the statement, Rekha Gupta said that the three Phase-IV corridors will provide Delhi with a modern and robust public transport system suitable for future needs. He said the project will provide safe, comfortable and time-saving travel for commuters, reduce dependence on private vehicles and contribute to pollution control. The Prime Minister added that the Delhi Government has been continuously taking concrete steps to transform the capital into a world-class city and expansion of the Metro network is an important part of this commitment.
