Brooklyn Beckham says he has been ‘controlled by a family that value public promotion above all else’ for most of his life and has since found ‘peace and relief’ with Nicola Peltz in astonishing online attack

Brooklyn Beckham has launched a shocking attack on his parents as he finally finds resolution to their long-running fight.
David and Victoria’s eldest son, 26, posted a statement on Instagram on Monday night, saying he did not want to reconcile with his family and was standing up for himself ‘for the first time in my life’.
Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz, 31, are at the center of a bitter split that has seen them denied all major family celebrations in recent months, including his father David’s milestone 50th birthday.
He wrote: ‘For years I have remained silent and made every effort to keep these matters secret.
‘Unfortunately my family and their team continued to go to the press, leaving me no choice but to speak out for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that were printed.
‘I don’t want to make peace with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.’

‘My entire life, my family has controlled the media narratives about our family.
‘Performant social media posts, family events, and inauthentic relationships were a fixture of the life I was born into.
‘Recently, I have seen with my own eyes how far they will go to spread countless lies to the media, often at the expense of innocent people, in order to protect their own image. But I believe that the truth will always come out.
‘My parents have been trying non-stop to destroy my relationship since my wedding and it hasn’t stopped.
‘Despite how excited she was to wear Nicola’s design, my mother canceled making Nicola’s dress at the eleventh hour, forcing her to find a new dress urgently.
‘In the weeks before our big day, my family repeatedly pressured and tried to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would affect me, my wife and our future children.
‘They were insistent that I sign the contract before my wedding date because then the terms of the agreement would come into effect.
‘My extension affected the payday and they have never treated me the same since.
‘During the wedding planning my mother went so far as to call me “bad” because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra and Nicola’s Naunni at our table because neither of them had a husband. Both our parents had their own desk equally adjacent to ours.
‘The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was ‘not blood related’ and ‘not family’.
‘From the moment I started defending myself with my family, I received countless attacks from my family, both private and public, sent to the press at their behest.
‘Even my siblings took to social media to attack me, then suddenly blocked me last summer.
‘My mother missed my first dance with my wife, which I had planned weeks in advance with a romantic love song.
‘In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage; I was supposed to have a romantic dance with my wife in the program, but my mother was waiting to dance with me instead. He danced with me in a very inappropriate way in front of everyone.
‘I have never felt so uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that brought us joy and happiness, not anxiety and shame.
‘No matter how hard we try to get together, my family constantly disrespects my wife. My mother repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.
‘Despite this, we still went to London for my dad’s birthday and were denied for a week while trying to plan to spend quality time with him in our hotel room. He rejected all our attempts, except for a big birthday party with hundreds of guests and cameras on every corner.
‘When he finally agreed to meet me it was on the condition that Nicola would not be invited. This was a slap in the face. Later, when my parents went to Los Angeles, they refused to see me at all.
‘My family values public promotion and support above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family “love” is determined by how much you post on social media or how quickly you drop everything for a family photo shoot, even at the expense of our professional obligations.
‘For years we have gone out of our way to show up and support our ‘perfect family’ at every fashion show, every party and every press event. However, when my wife asked my mother for support in rescuing dogs displaced during the Los Angeles fires, my mother refused.
‘The narrative that my partner controls me is completely opposite. I have been controlled by my family for most of my life.
‘I grew up with great anxiety. For the first time in my life since I moved away from my family, this anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning with gratitude for the life I chose, I have found peace and relief.
‘My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, the press or manipulation. All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for ourselves and our future family.’
The Daily Mail revealed that relations between the Beckhams completely soured last summer, and that at one point Brooklyn asked her parents to only contact her through their respective lawyers, Schillings and Harbottle & Lewis.
A source told the Mail: ‘David was told to speak to them through Schillings. “It was their only way to communicate.”
It appears that Brooklyn does not want his parents to contact him directly or make public statements about him on social media.
There was no legal transaction between them and the letter, which was just a request, had no legal basis.
But Brooklyn still maintains regular contact with both sets of grandparents.
