German-born Alijoscha Quooss, 36, of London, was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation after comedian Lucas, 51, reported Quooss to them.

Police said it appears Quooss has now left the country.

A spokesman for the force said: ‘Charges have been authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) against Alijoscha Quooss, 36 (05.01.90), of Cornwall Avenue, E2, for harassment and blackmail.

‘Quooss failed to respond to formal bail and is now understood to have left the UK. Investigations continue.

‘The charges follow allegations reported to police on 26 June. Quooss was arrested the next day.’

The arrest comes just three weeks after Mr Lucas failed to agree not to speak against Mr Quooss at an emergency High Court hearing.

Mr Lucas, represented by KC, sought an injunction against Quooss, which represented him, but the judge rejected the application.

Under bail conditions, Quooss was not allowed to contact Mr Lucas or go anywhere near his address.
