BT to axe landlines in 132 postcodes – full list of locations | UK | News

BT has revealed more than 130 new locations where ‘STOP SALE’ notices have been introduced for traditional landlines as part of a wider move away from technology. This comes as major providers continue to phase out analogue copper landlines in favor of Digital Voice, a nationwide initiative that uses your broadband to make calls.
People setting up new phone and broadband plans, as well as those updating existing contracts, will have to switch to new technology.
Existing landlines will eventually be switched off and switched to Digital Voice, but copper-based plans will reportedly continue for customers where full fiber is not yet available.
BT stressed that no one will be left behind by the changes, including those who currently do not have a broadband connection. “Rest assured, you will not be left without home phone service and you will not pay more than you do today,” the company said.
“By phasing out legacy copper-based services in regions where fiber is widely available, we are enabling customers and providers to migrate to faster, more reliable digital infrastructure.
“Not only does this approach reduce the cost and complexity of having to maintain both old and new networks, it also supports the industry-wide transition ahead of the legacy copper-based Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) being now just 12 months away when everyone will need a digital phone line.”
While many are nervous about moving away from their current wired setup, using a digital platform that supports HD or high-definition audio will improve call quality and clarity.
