5 times Pakistani defence minister embarrassed his country

Following the incident, the US-based food chain released a statement, describing the store as “unauthorized” and denying any connection with this store. However, this is not the first time Asif has embarrassed himself and his country with his actions and comments.

Pakistani defense minister Khawaja Asif has once again faced brutal trolling after images emerged on social media showing him opening a fake Pizza Hut store in Sialkot. Following the incident, the US-based food chain released a statement, describing the store as “unauthorized” and denying any connection with this store. However, this is not the first time Asif has embarrassed himself and his country with his actions and comments. Here are some examples of Asif being trolled in a similar manner:
The flood was called a ‘blessing’: Amid severe floods in Pakistan last year, Asif told people living in low-lying areas to store floodwater in containers and said the disaster was a “blessing”. Millions of people were affected and more than a thousand people lost their lives due to the flood caused by record-breaking monsoon rains in the Punjab province.
He demanded that Netanyahu be kidnapped: Recently, apparently impressed by the US capture of ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Asif said that America or Türkiye should kidnap Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu because of the war in Gaza. “No community has done what Israel has done to the Palestinians in the last 4000-5000 years. He (Netanyahu) is the greatest criminal of humanity. The world has never seen a greater criminal than this,” Asif said in a televised interview.
Allegations that IPL match was hacked: Last year, Asif told the Pakistani parliament that the country’s so-called “cyber warriors” had turned off the lights of an Indian cricket stadium during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match. His remarks appeared to be a reference to the IPL tie between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Himachal Pradesh on May 8, which was canceled midway due to a power outage caused by a technical fault in the area. The previous day, India launched coordinated precision air strikes on several terrorist camps in Pakistan.
Comment on Indian drones: Asif had also made a series of outrageous statements during and after the military conflict with India in May last year. In one comment, he said Pakistan chose not to intervene in India’s drone strikes to avoid revealing the locations of its military installations.
‘Proof’ that warplanes were shot down: Asked by a TV news anchor about evidence that his country had shot down Indian warplanes during last year’s military conflict, Asif replied: “It’s all on social media.” He was trolled mercilessly after the surprising revelation.
