Paul Gascoigne reveals he was rushed to hospital after breaking six ribs in a fall – as England legend opens up on latest health scare

Paul Gascoigne announced that he suffered six broken ribs and a punctured lung as a result of a fall, following another health problem during the festive period.

The 58-year-old former England international said he was left ‘in pain’ due to the injuries.

Gascoigne made this statement on the podcast Clutch 9 and admitted to “panicking” and “cursing” himself because of the pain while being treated in hospital.

‘I was hanging something and fell backwards. I broke six ribs and punctured a few lungs,’ said Gascoigne.

‘I go to hospital and obviously I’m in pain and they give me some painkillers. I felt my neck grow. I immediately took the surgeon in because I was panicking.

‘I could see my dad in the clouds and I was really panicking.

During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, he told viewers that he still drank alcohol and that he repeatedly became depressed when discussing his struggles with substance abuse.

‘Looking back I must have hurt my mother and father. But you don’t think about it. The person you hurt the most is yourself.’
