According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), there is an active recall of organic chia seeds sold across Canada. This is because Salmonella pollution.
The recalled product is Left Coast Organics’ Organic Chia Seeds, sold in 3-ounce bags at retail locations in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan. The recalled bags have a UPC printed “6 25691 21034 9” and an expiration date of “26 NO 13” or “26 NO 14.”
This recall was triggered by a recall in another country, according to the CFIA report. While there are currently no illnesses associated with this recall, Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) may be severe in susceptible groups, including immunocompromised and pregnant individuals. If you have symptoms of foodborne illness, such as stomach cramps, headache, nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, contact a healthcare professional immediately.
