AI smart glasses, 30,000 personnel to secure Delhi on Republic Day

Security forces will first use artificial intelligence-supported smart glasses equipped with facial recognition system (FRS) and thermal imaging technology.
The Indian-made smart glasses will connect in real time to the police’s database of criminals, suspects and declared criminals. This will allow personnel in the field to instantly detect people in crowded areas.
Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla said, “Wearable devices will connect to mobile phones used by police officers and provide access to crime database.”
He explained that if a person has no criminal record, a green box appears on the device, while a red box signals a criminal record.
The safety net includes multiple layers of barricading and six layers of control and body search. Thousands of CCTV cameras, including those with FRS, have been installed in New Delhi. FRS-equipped mobile vehicles will also be deployed at various points. “Delhi Police is ready to deal with any situation,” Mahla said, adding that mock drills were being conducted with multiple security agencies. Of the total deployment, 10,000 personnel will be deployed exclusively in New Delhi.
DCPs of all districts are properly informed about security arrangements. He said police officers will remain on high alert and immediately report any suspicious activity. Another officer said around 4,000 rooftop security posts have been identified in New Delhi, North and Central regions. Approximately 500 high-definition artificial intelligence cameras are being installed along the parade route and surrounding areas. Security stickers will be distributed to all participants in the Republic Day parade.
Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) completed route surveys and anti-sabotage checks. Measures have been increased in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic, such as bus stops, train stations and popular markets.
Preventive measures currently underway include citywide tenant and servant verification efforts. Police are also holding “eyes and ears” awareness sessions with rickshaw and taxi drivers, vendors and local service providers.
An inter-state coordination meeting is being held between Delhi Police and its counterparts in neighboring states to facilitate information sharing and joint preparedness.
