DGP Caution On Digital Arrest To Deadly Roads

NIZAMABAD: Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy termed the establishment of Nizamabad Security Council on the lines of Hyderabad and Siberabad as a laudable step towards strengthening the security of citizens.

“The council will operate in eight main verticals. At a time when cyber crimes are on the rise, people need to be alert. Earlier, stolen goods were sold in places like Jumma Raat Bazaar, but now the ‘Dark Web’ has become such a hub,” he said.

“Scammers collect Aadhaar and credit card information and defraud people. Incidents of people wearing police uniforms deceiving citizens under the name of ‘digital arrest’ have come to light. People need to be careful about such phone calls,” he said.

The council, which was formed with the coordination between the government and private organizations, was officially opened on Friday at the State Medical College, where the DGP unveiled its logo.

Shivadhar Reddy also emphasized road safety as part of the ongoing ‘Come Alive’ campaign. While around 800 murders are recorded annually in Telangana, around 7,000 people die in road accidents. He called for strict compliance with safety rules, including mandatory helmets for drivers and pillion occupants, seat belts for vehicle passengers and safe overtaking practices. He instructed the police to ensure that the campaign reaches the public as a mass movement.

New buildings of Nizamabad Rural and Makloor police stations were opened. Government advisors P. Sudarshan Reddy and Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Nizamabad Rural MLA R. Bhupathi Reddy, Armoor MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy, district collector Ila Tripathi, Multi Zone–I IGP S. Chandrashekhar Reddy and police commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya attended the event.

The DGP, who inspected the new facilities, instructed the staff to maintain a friendly atmosphere for the victims and ensure prompt redressal of grievances. He said modernization of police stations would speed up crime control.

Later, at a program held on the city ring road, DGP and other guests distributed free helmets to drivers. He flagged off a massive cycling rally attended by senior officials, staff and voluntary organizations to spread awareness about road safety.
