Oaklands Ave, Ferntree Gully: Two dead in horror crash, driver taken to hospital

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after two passengers died in a road crash in Melbourne’s east.
The single-vehicle crash occurred when the car crashed into a pole on Oaklands Boulevard in Ferntree Gully shortly before 6pm on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Victoria Police statement, two unidentified passengers died at the scene, while the driver was taken to hospital under police supervision.
Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation unit have appealed for anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
“The circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing,” Victoria Police said.
Oaklands Ave intersects the Burwood Hwy, a key transport link in Melbourne’s eastern edge.
The Department for Transport has closed Burwood Hwy in both directions east of Commercial Rd.
There have been 16 deaths on Victoria’s roads so far this year, according to the Transport Accident Commission.
