Trump threatens Canada with tariffs over any China deal

US President Donald Trump said he would impose 100 percent tariffs on Canada if it makes a trade agreement with China and warned Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that the agreement would endanger his country.
“China will completely destroy Canada, including eating it alive and destroying its jobs, social fabric, and overall way of life,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“If Canada makes a deal with China, there will be an immediate 100% tariff on all Canadian goods and products coming into the United States.”
During a recent visit to China, Carney called the Asian superpower a “reliable and predictable partner” and encouraged European leaders at Davos to “seek investment from the world’s second-largest economy.”
Trump suggested China would try to use Canada to avoid US tariffs.
“If Governor Carney thinks he is going to turn Canada into a ‘Drop Port’ for China to ship goods and products to the United States, he is sorely mistaken.”
Tensions between the USA and Canada have increased in recent days.
Trump on Thursday withdrew an invitation for Canada to join the Peace Board initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts.
The reversal followed Carney’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, in which he publicly condemned powerful countries that use weapons and tariffs as leverage for economic integration.
