Koraput Collector Withdraws Order Prohibiting Sale Of Non-Veg Food

Bhubaneswar : Following public outcry, the Koraput Collector on Sunday withdrew the order issued two days ago banning the sale of meat, chicken, fish, eggs and other non-vegetarian food items on the occasion of Republic Day. Koraput Collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan, in a letter published on January 23, had asked collectors, block development officers (BDOs) and senior administrators of municipalities to prepare meat, chicken, fish, eggs, etc. in their jurisdictions on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day Celebration in 2026. and other non-vegetarian food items were directed to issue an official notification banning the sale.

In a fresh order issued on Sunday, the collector said the order was issued entirely on the recommendation of the district-level Republic Day preparation committee.

“Now, after due consideration, the said letter has been canceled with immediate effect,” it said.

However, the collector did not mention the reason behind the cancellation of the order. Sources said that the ban decision was withdrawn after the reaction of the people in the district.
