Trump voices disapproval over Alex Pretti shooting and gives Minneapolis migrant ultimatum: ‘I don’t like it’

While President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to state officials to turn over all criminal immigrants, he admitted “I don’t like any shootings” when asked about the deadly shootout between Border Patrol agents and Minnesota nurse Alex Pretti.

The Commander in Chief appeared reluctant to fully defend the unidentified agent who shot Pretti in broad daylight, briefly expressing regret for the man’s death. Discussion with The Wall Street Journal.

‘I don’t like shooting. I don’t like this,’ Trump said. ‘But I don’t like it when someone shows up at a protest and they have a very powerful, fully loaded gun, plus two magazines full of bullets. This doesn’t look good either.”

Pretti, 37, was shot and killed in broad daylight by a Border Patrol agent during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Trump administration officials claim he ‘approached’ Border Patrol officers with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun before the deadly shooting – which comes just weeks after 37-year-old Renee Good was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.

The president on Sunday signaled his willingness to withdraw immigration enforcement officials from Minneapolis and said his administration would investigate Pretti’s deadly attack.

“We’re looking, we’re reviewing everything, and we’re going to come out determined,” Trump told the Journal. ‘We will leave at some point.’

The president also penned a lengthy Truth Social op-ed on Sunday ordering Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to turn over all criminal immigrants in the state.

Trump called on Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and ‘EVERY Democrat Governor and Mayor in the United States to formally cooperate with the Trump Administration to enforce our Nation’s Laws rather than resisting and fanning the flames of Division, Chaos, and Violence.’

He then ordered Walz and Frey to ‘turn over to federal authorities all Unlawful Criminal Aliens currently incarcerated in State Jails and Penitentiaries.’

The president also said state and local police must agree to turn over any immigrant who commits a crime, and that local authorities must assist their federal partners in detaining immigrants accused of crimes.

“Some Democrats in places like Memphis, Tennessee, or Washington DC have done this, ensuring safer streets for EVERYONE,” Trump wrote.

At this point, Trump announced that he also wanted Congress to pass a law ending sanctuary cities, arguing that this was the “root cause of all these problems.”

“American cities should be Safe Havens ONLY for Law-Abiding American Citizens, not for illegal Alien Criminals who break our Nation’s Laws,” Trump wrote.

‘The Trump Administration stands by and expects ANY Democrat to do the right thing and work with us on these important issues of MAKING AMERICA SECURE, as do all parts of our country where we participate and engage with Local Leadership.’

The Trump administration has made similar demands in the past; Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Walz on Friday urging him to “fully cooperate” with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a three-page letter, he accused state officials of “anti-law enforcement rhetoric” and “endangering federal agents.”

Bondi also called on the governor to “remove sanctuary policies” in Minnesota and demanded that “all detention facilities” in the state “fully cooperate with ICE” and “respect detention officers.”

He then requested that Minnesota grant the Justice Department access to voter rolls to ‘verify that Minnesota’s voter registration practices comply with federal law.’

“I believe these simple steps will help restore law and order in Minnesota and improve the lives of Americans,” Bondi added.

But on Sunday, Walz responded to the allegations by calling them “false” and “false” as he implored the president to remove federal officers from his city.

‘What’s the plan, Donald? ‘What do we need to do to get these federal agents out of our state?’ the governor of Minnesota asked.

‘President Trump, you can end this today. Withdraw these people, carry out humane, focused, effective immigration control; “You have all our support to do this,” he implored. ‘Show some kindness. ‘Get these people out.’

In his speech, Walz argued that ICE agents exceeded their authority in Minnesota following Pretti’s death.

‘It’s their job to do Immigration and Customs Enforcement,’ the governor said. ‘In Minnesota, law enforcement is the job of law enforcement.’

He added: ‘We won’t do your job for you. ‘We have other things to do.’

But Trump has seemingly doubled down on his claim that Somali immigrants in Minneapolis are committing massive fraud.

‘Minnesota is a Criminal Cover-up for massive ongoing Financial Fraud!’ While Walz’s press conference was continuing, he shared on the Truth Social platform.

The president deployed thousands of federal immigration agents to predominantly Democratic Minneapolis for weeks after conservative media reported the alleged fraud.

Minneapolis is one of the places with the highest concentration of Somali immigrants in the country.

Still, Walz accused the Trump administration of launching a smear campaign against Pretti, who federal officials say wants to “massacre law enforcement.”

“You know what you saw,” Walz said, before accusing Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and other top officials of “smearing his name within minutes of this happening.”

‘This is a turning point, America. “If we can’t all agree that an American citizen should be vilified, everything he stands for is denigrated, and we are asked not to believe what we see, I don’t know what else to tell you,” Walz said.

Walz then addressed the American people directly, urging them to condemn Trump’s crackdown on immigrants and the killing of civilians by federal officers.

‘Which side do you want to be on?’ Walz asked. ‘He’s on the side of an all-powerful federal government that can kill, injure, threaten and kidnap citizens off the streets, or on the side of a nurse at the VA who died while testifying against that government.’

Walz also said Trump was trying to ‘set an example for Minnesota’ but was proud of his state for standing up to the administration.

‘We believe in law and order in this state. ‘We believe in peace in this state, and we believe Donald Trump should remove these 3,000 untrained agents from Minnesota before they kill anyone else.’

Walz also revealed that he had spoken to the heartbroken family of Alex Pretti, who allegedly wanted Americans to continue fighting for him.

The governor later shared that he spoke to Pretti’s heartbroken family and claimed that they wanted Americans to continue fighting for him.

‘The heartache in the hours after your son was murdered in front of the world is one thing, but what stood out to me was a parent’s desire and passion to make sure Alex’s story was told,’ Walz said of Pretti’s parents.

The nurse’s father claimed Michael told him: ‘Don’t let them forget Alex’s story.’

But the Department of Homeland Security said Pretti was shot after he ‘approached’ Border Patrol agents with a gun.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the officers “clearly feared for their lives” and fired defensively at Pretti, who “violently” resisted federal agents.

Federal authorities claimed the intensive care unit nurse was carrying a loaded Sig Sauer P320 9mm handgun, but video taken at the scene appears to show officers disarming her before gunshots were heard.

Minneapolis police said Pretti had no serious criminal history and was a legal gun owner with a valid permit.

Videos after Pretti was disarmed do not clearly show where the first shot came from, but a weapons expert said he believed Pretti’s Sig Sauer P320 exploded in one agent’s hand, prompting another agent to open fire.

Rob Dobar, attorney for the Minnesota Gun Owners Group, wrote to

Multiple eyewitness videos show a Border Patrol agent shooting and killing Pretti after a fight of about 30 seconds around 9 a.m. Saturday.

The videos appear to contradict statements from DHS, which said the shots were fired ‘defensively’ because Pretti was ‘approaching’ Pretti with a gun.

In the videos, Pretti can be seen holding only a phone. None of the footage shows him with a gun.

During the struggle, agents noticed the man was carrying a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots.

Federal officials did not identify the agent but confirmed the agent’s identity. The officer who shot Pretti is an eight-year Border Patrol veteran.

Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, who oversees the administration’s big-city immigration campaign, said the officer who shot Pretti had extensive training as a range safety officer and in using less lethal force.

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Trump administration from “destroying or altering evidence” related to Pretti’s death.

It has not been confirmed whether Pretti’s gun fired any shots.
