Calm streets, crowded fairgrounds, official ceremonies mark Republic Day in Hyderabad

Hyderabad woke up to patriotic songs near residential complexes and an unusual calm on major roads left deserted by the long weekend, as holiday crowds flocked to Numaish and other popular tourist attractions. Tricolor flags flew over government buildings during official ceremonies held for the 77th Republic Day in different parts of the city.
At the DGP office, Additional Director General of Police DS Chauhan unfurled the national flag and received the salute from police personnel who also presented a guard of honour. AIG Law and Order Ramana Kumar, Legal SP Satish, CSO Yogeshwara Rao, DSP Venugopal and other officers and staff attended the ceremony.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honor at the City Armed Reserve headquarters in Petla Buruj. Addressing the gathering, he announced that comprehensive medical examinations would be conducted for all personnel in the Hyderabad Commissionerate and individual ‘health profiles’ would be prepared. According to the test reports, personnel will be classified from A to E and treatment and care will be provided according to their health status.
The commissioner said police personnel routinely worked on festivals and major missions, often away from their families, and their role in preventing untoward incidents was commendable. He said that H-NEW unit has been strengthened to combat drug menace and special teams will be formed with Food Safety officials to prevent adulteration. Highlighting Hyderabad’s tradition of communal harmony, he urged citizens not to fall for rumors on social media and share information with the police through Dial 100. He also instructed the staff to treat the public with respect and ensure timely redressal of complaints.
Additional CP Srinivasulu, Additional CP Tafseer Iqbal, Joint CPs Joel Davis and Shweta, DCP Venkateshwarlu and other senior officials attended the programme.
At the Anti-Corruption Bureau headquarters, Director Tarun Joshi unfurled the national flag in the presence of officers and students who were given notebooks and pens. Twenty-one officers were awarded Uthama Seva and Seva medals for their services.
India Post celebrated the day at the National Sorting Centre, where Postmaster General NR Visalatchy presided over the celebrations and honored employees for their contribution to digital transformation and service excellence.
In Siberabad, Police Commissioner M. Ramesh unfurled the tricolor at the Police Commissionerate and paid tribute to the freedom fighters. He spoke about the importance of the Constitution and the role of the police in protecting constitutional values. The medals were presented to personnel selected for gallantry, most distinguished service and distinguished service, including Chief Constable Marri Venkat Reddy, who received the President’s Meritorious Service Medal and the Police Medal of Gallantry. Many other active duty and retired officers were also honored. Senior officers from various units of Cyberabad Police attended the event.
