‘That’s b******s!’ Liz Truss loses it after TV star asks ‘why didn’t you speak up?’ | Politics | News

Liz Truss lashed out at an interviewer, accusing him of talking “s***” about her record in the Cabinet. Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister appeared on Julia Hartley Brewer’s Talk TV show on Monday and the pair exchanged heated words about Ms Truss’ time in Government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Hartley Brewer said: “With all due respect, during lockdown, perhaps the biggest thing of our lives, you were very quiet. I wasn’t. I wasn’t. I could have lost my job, I could have lost my livelihood, we could have lost our YouTube page. I was definitely being attacked constantly. You kept quiet; neither did I. So don’t blame all the media. Some of us were speaking out.”

Ms Truss replied: “I respect you on that, Julia. I was trade secretary at the time and had to do a hundred, almost a hundred trade deals in a year and I was still the only one traveling on empty planes during COVID, traveling around the world trying to solve our problem…”

Interrupting him, Mrs Hartley Brewer said she had been told that he had not spoken against the lockdown in the Cabinet.

“Well, that’s complete nonsense,” replied Miss Truss. “This is absolute nonsense. I spoke in the cabinet.”

“The dictatorial excesses during the Covid-19 lockdowns should have been a stark warning because they are a harbinger of things to come if conservatives continue to prattle on principle, capitulate on policy and fail with voters,” Ms. Truss wrote in her book “10 Years to Save the West.”

He said measures since the pandemic have been too “draconian”.

“If a conservative was a liberal attacked, I was a libertarian attacked by Covid,” Boris Johnson wrote of his decision to impose lockdown in his book Unleashed.

He added: “Lockdown was more or less a problem for some, the relatively affluent middle classes cocooned in furlough who could watch Netflix, bake banana bread and drink rosé wine in the garden.”
