An 80-year-old Ukrainian war refugee and Holocaust survivor was killed in a hit-and-run crash by a driver in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Andriy Korshunov. Both he and his dog were killed when a driver crashed into them with a Maserati while crossing a street in the San Fernando Valley. Korshunov’s family says he emigrated to the United States after war broke out in Ukraine and that he himself survived the Holocaust as a child.
Witnesses to the crash attempted to resuscitate Kroshunov at the scene of the crash, but he was later pronounced dead by first responders when he was taken to the hospital.
Kroshunov’s daughter, Ilana Korshunov, expressed surprise at the driver’s insensitivity.

“He didn’t help her. He just hit and ran,” he told KTLA. “He killed two souls. I don’t know what he thinks about that. I mean, what a terrible person he must be to do that. How come?”
“God sees everything, and God sees what he does,” he said. “He needs to do something. First of all, he needs to apologize to God for what he did.”
