Heartbreak for UK market town as pub suddenly closes – ‘many memories’ | UK | News

A popular pub in a pretty market town has suddenly closed its doors, much to the disappointment of its regulars. The pub, nationally known for its award-winning food, said it was “a privilege” to serve the town following reports that the venue’s parent company had gone into administration.

“We Are Now Closed,” the statement read. “You may have seen some recent news about Peach Pubs and your favorite local. We would like to share a message from us to let you know that we are now permanently closed.

“We truly thank you for the past few years Peachy, it has been a privilege to welcome you through our doors and share such unforgettable moments together.”

The well-respected gastro-pub offered breakfast, lunch and dinner, including roasts that changed daily, and was hugely popular with locals it had been serving for the past two decades. Located at one end of the main street of a charming, affluent town in the heart of England, famous for its rich history and surrounded by stunning countryside. The town offers a mix of historic charm, independent shops, top schools and a good food scene, but sadly it no longer has its award-winning pub.

The Almanack in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, has announced it will close on Wednesday 27 January. Revolution pub group RevelCollective is behind Revolution and Peach Pubs, closing 21 venues in total, leading to hundreds of jobs being made redundant.

Addressing the news on social media, a spokesperson for the Almanack thanked the community for its traditions and the memories it creates.

The Almanack in Abbey End, Kenilworth, was a leading, award-winning pub and restaurant in the town, known for its high-quality food and won the ‘All Day Food Pub of the Year’ award in 2011. Great British Pub Food Awards.

But the pub’s statement reassured other Warwickshire customers: “It’s business as usual for our sister pubs; seasonal menus, serving local produce and a warm welcome make it worthwhile.”

The Rose & Crown in Warwick and The Star and Garter in Leamington Spa are also Peach pubs and these will continue to trade as normal.

Revel Collective stressed that negotiations over a possible sale were “progressing well” when announcing its intention to appoint administrators earlier this week. FTI executives have approved deals that will secure the future of a further 41 sites and save more than 1,500 jobs.

The company said: “As the transactions are not expected to provide any return to shareholders, the board has decided to take action to protect creditors.

“Unless circumstances change and in accordance with legal obligations, the board intends to appoint directors within 10 business days.”

“The business will continue to trade and the company will continue to work with advisors to preserve as much value as possible for all stakeholders while progressing the potential sale of all or part of the business.”

Venues closed include 14 Revolution bars, six Revolucion de Cuba bars and a Peach Pub, the Almanack.

The full list of Revolution pubs includes Cardiff, Durham, Exeter, Glasgow (Renfield Street), Huddersfield, Ipswich, The Electric Press, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester (Oxford Road), Manchester (Parsonage), Nottingham (The Cornerhouse), Preston and Sheffield. Revolucion de Cuba pubs are closing in Aberdeen, Cardiff, Derby, Harrogate, Liverpool and Reading. The only Peach Pub to close is The Almanack, Kenilworth.
