2yo, teenage girl fight for life after house fire erupts in Townsville

A two-year-old child and a teenager are fighting for their lives after a house fire in Queensland; The police risk their own lives to save them.

The fire at the house on Bushland Beach, near Townsville, broke out at about 5.30am on Sunday.

At the time, two girls, ages 2 and 13, and two boys, ages 15 and 17, were at the house in Gum Court.

While the girls were struggling to survive after the fire, emergency teams took them to the hospital.

“The latest advice I have received is that two-year-olds and 13-year-olds are in life-threatening conditions at Townsville University Hospital,” Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Rhys Wildman told reporters on Sunday. he said.

“I would like to extend the Queensland Police Service’s thoughts and best wishes for the speedy recovery of the four young people involved in the fire.

“The community, not just the family, the Bushland Beach community is a close-knit community and we certainly extend our thoughts and support to that community as well as the family.”

The children were also hospitalized in stable condition.

Mr Wildman said the two officers “risked their lives” to save the children and had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

“Our front-line police have done an outstanding job, risking their own lives,” he said. “They did their best.

“(I hope) both of our police officers who suffered smoke inhalation recover quickly.”

The fire is considered not suspicious.

“But the exact reason why the fire started in the first place has not yet been resolved,” Mr Wildman said.
