“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin challenged Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico on Monday to consider whether his opponent, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, can win a statewide race, suggesting that the discourse about her chances has to do with her race.

“You’re running the Democratic primary against U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and there’s a lot of rhetoric about her electability, and some might say that’s code for ‘They don’t think a Black woman can win statewide.’ Do you think she could win a statewide race if she wins the primary against you?” Hostin asked Talarico.

Crockett spoke with “The View” co-hosts earlier this year on Jan. 6, during which he defended his candidacy and said he was used to being underestimated.

Talarico responded to Hostin and said “absolutely.”

He said he is a friend of Crockett and plans to support him 100% if he wins the Texas primary.

“I have deep love and respect for her. She is a leader of our state. I’ve said before, if she wins this nomination, I will be behind her 1000% and will do everything in my power to get her to the finish line. Jasmine and I are on the same team. We are trying to change the politics of our state and take this country back,” Talarico said. he said.

Talarico argued that he had unique access to the Texas Senate primaries.

“I think what I bring to this primary is something unique. I have a history of winning these types of races. I got elected to the State House by flipping a Trump district that no one thought was winnable, in a county so red that it hasn’t voted for a Democrat for president since Jimmy Carter,” he said.

“And I’ve done that by pitching a big tent, inspiring Democrats to unseat, bringing in young voters who are disillusioned with politics, and moving people away from the middle, even the right, to me that’s the formula for winning. That’s how we win Texas and that’s how we save this American experiment in November,” he added.

During the interview, Talarico also said it was time to “demolish” ICE, which he described as a “secret police force,” and replace it with something truly focused on public safety.
