India-US Trade Deal: Trump finally gets ‘peace’ endorsement from Modi, PM says US President ‘vital for global stability, prosperity’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public praise of US President Donald Trump following his trade tariff announcement has added a new dimension to the long-running debate; India now appears to accept Trump’s role as a key force for global peace. Immediately after the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, the Prime Minister realized that ‘President Trump’s leadership is vital to global peace, stability and prosperity.’ Modi’s remarks come at a time when Trump has repeatedly said he deserves global recognition, including the Nobel Peace Prize, for his role in defusing conflicts around the world, including tensions between India and Pakistan.

Modi’s words signal a change

After speaking to Trump, Prime Minister Modi said that the US President’s leadership is vital for global peace, stability and prosperity and India fully supports his peace efforts. The comment was notable because New Delhi has traditionally avoided any comment on President Trump’s role in global peace, especially as it concerns Pakistan.

Prime Minister Modi said in a statement about
“President Trump’s leadership is vital for global peace, stability and prosperity. India fully supports his peace efforts. I look forward to working closely with him to take our partnership to unprecedented heights,” PM Modi said on X.

US President Donald Trump invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be a part of the “Peace Board” to bring peace to Gaza. However, India stayed away from this initiative. By openly supporting Trump’s peace claims, India appeared for the first time to align itself with Trump’s own narrative of being a global peace broker.

Trump’s long-running Nobel Peace Prize speech

Donald Trump has expressed on multiple occasions his disappointment in not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, despite what he described as successful mediation efforts at many global flashpoints.
Trump said in his post on the social media platform Truth Social, “No matter what I do, I will not receive the Nobel Peace Prize.” He also reiterated his claim that he helped stop the war between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, which India has consistently denied.

India-Pakistan ceasefire and rival narratives

Following the announcement of the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani leadership was quick to praise Trump for halting the conflict. Islamabad publicly praised the US President’s role, but India argued that there was no mediation by third parties and that the firing was stopped after Pakistan made the request. At that time, India flatly rejected any external mediation and reiterated that all issues related to Pakistan were handled bilaterally.

Pakistan praises Trump’s role

Following the ceasefire, Pakistan issued a statement praising Trump’s leadership in the tensions.

According to a statement from Islamabad, the US President demonstrated “great strategic foresight” and “excellent statesmanship” during the tensions between India and Pakistan in April-May.

“President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and excellent statesmanship by establishing strong diplomatic relations with both Islamabad and New Delhi, de-escalating the rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a ceasefire, and preventing a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that could have been catastrophic for millions of people in the region and beyond,” the statement said.

Why do Modi’s words matter now?

In this context, Modi’s support carries weight. While India has not accepted Trump’s claims of mediation, the Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of Trump’s leadership on global peace effectively moves New Delhi closer to Washington’s version of the ‘peace harbinger’ message.

For Trump, who has repeatedly argued that his peace efforts have gone unnoticed, Modi’s statement offers something he has been looking for for a long time; to gain approval from one of the world’s largest democracies and a major global power.

For India, the message is equally strategic: Cooperation between major democracies, even on sensitive global issues, can unlock broader diplomatic and economic opportunities.

It remains unclear whether this would mean official recognition of Trump. But politically, the signal is clear: India has finally given voice to the idea that Trump is a global ambassador of peace.
