‘New’ ideas raised in US-Russia talks, Russia hits Kyiv

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US and Russia exchanged new ideas for Ukraine peace talks after meeting with the Russian counterpart in Malaysia.

Rubio, after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, told reporters, “I think this is a new and different approach,” he said.

“I don’t characterize this as something that guarantees peace, but you know, a concept I will return to the President”.

Rubio added that US President Donald Trump had “disappointed and disappointed on the Russian side to end the conflict.”

“We need to see a road map on how this conflict may result. And then we shared some ideas about what it could look like.” He said.

He continued: “We will continue to participate in the place where we see the opportunities to make a difference.”

In a statement published shortly after the meeting on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that “exchange of views” on issues such as Ukraine, Iran, Syria and other global problems.

“Both countries have confirmed their mutual commitments to find peaceful solutions to conflicts, restore Russian-American economic and human cooperation, and to improvise the ineffective contact between the societies of the two countries by maintaining direct air traffic.”

“The importance of more work to normalize bilateral diplomatic relations was emphasized.”

Local officials said that two people were killed, 23 were injured and damage was reported in almost every region of Kiev.
