Arsenal Beat Chelsea 1-0 To Reach League Cup Final

London: Arsenal booked their place in the League Cup final by beating Chelsea 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, thanks to a stoppage-time goal from former Blues attacker Kai Havertz, and seal a 4-2 aggregate victory over their London rivals.

After a cagey first hour of the semi-final second leg in which each goalkeeper made just one save, Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior switched to a more attacking formation, bringing Cole Palmer and Brazilian winger Estevao off the bench.

They were followed by Alejandro Garnacho, who scored both of Chelsea’s goals in Arsenal’s 3-2 first leg win at Stamford Bridge, and the visitors began searching for the goal they needed to level the aggregate score.

But Mikel Arteta’s men withstood the pressure before Havertz scored the only goal of the match with a breakaway move in the final seconds.

The Premier League leaders will face either Manchester City or Newcastle United in the semi-final second leg on Wednesday in their first League Cup final since 2018, with City leading 2-0 from the first leg.
