Revealed: The ONE thing that takes years off a man’s appearance

There must be many men of a certain age who keep an assortment of ties in their bedroom drawers.
And it is certain that very few of them have seen any benefit in the last few years.
But now an etiquette expert says older men should bring these ties out of retirement; because wearing such a tie will make them look much younger and will definitely hide the wrinkled neck that an open-collared shirt leaves exposed.
Mary Killen said ties are a type of shapewear for men because ties do for men what Spanx does for women.
The Gogglebox star and writer told The Oldie magazine: ‘Male elders, pay particular attention; tie is one of the best devices to get rid of you for years. Turning bulges into tightness the same way Spanx underwear does for women, the tie does the same for the sacs, jowls, and puckers on an older man’s neck.
‘The tie should be pulled tight to the Adam’s apple, hiding the top button.’ The long-term shift to casual wear, which began in the 1960s, meant that wearing a tie became increasingly restricted to special occasions and the office.
The advent of ‘No Clothes Fridays’ has accelerated the move towards less formal office attire; It was a trend that horrified many sartorial experts, and since the rise of quarantine and working from home, most office workers have given up on ties altogether.
But Ms Killen said: ‘Now is the time for older men to lead the revival of tie-wearing.

‘Much has been made of the recent ’tilting’ of the culture. ‘The salivation of our personal presentation goes hand in hand with the salivation of our brain.’
Columnist and writer Ms Killen and her artist husband Giles Wood have appeared on Channel 4’s Gogglebox from their home in Wiltshire since 2015.
